Infinix Hot 8

Infinix has launched a series of smartphones over the years packing great features. That said, the infinix Hot 8 is no different. The Hot 8 is the latest addition to the infinix Hot series family. It is a successor to the infinix Hot 7 and Hot 7 pro and it offers better battery performance amongst other things.

The Hot 8 comes with a 10W charger, USB cable, Earpiece.

The Infinix Hot 8 has triple rear cameras, an entry – level MediaTek processor, and a large battery. However, are all these features enough to recommend the Hot 8 over other options such as Xiaomi, Samsung and Oppo? Read through this review to find out.

Infinix Hot 8 Design

Infinix Hot 8 Review - What You Need To Know - Features

Looking at the Infinix Hot 8, it could be confused to be just any low budget smartphone. However this is not the case. The Hot 8 has a water drop style notch and a 6.6-inches screen at the front. The Hot 8 earpiece is located above the notch.

A great deal of work was done on the rear panel to give it a classy finish. The Hot 8 has a glossy rear finish, a fingerprint sensor and triple rear cameras vertically arranged.

However, the rear panel appears to be made out of cheap and inferior material. This causes the rear panel to flex easily with gentle press especially at the middle.

The volume and power buttons are located on the right side of the phone. Its 3-in-1 smdual nano SIM and MicroSD card tray is located on the left side. The micro USB port and 3.5mm headphone jack are located at the bottom. The Hot 8 has curved sides which ensures comfortable grip during use. However, its tall display causes discomfort while operating it.

The Hot 8 comes in Quetzal Cyan, Cosmic purple, Shark Grey and  Midnight Black colour options.

The Infinix Hot 8 Display

Infinix Hot 8 Review - What You Need To Know - Features

The Infinix Hot 8 packs a 6.52 inches HD+ 720 × 1600 pixels display. A 20:9 aspect ratio and 90.3% screen-to-body-ratio. The display produces decent colours and has a peak brightness of 450nits. for a phone of this price tag, the Infinix Hot 8 has a satisfactory display even under day light.

Infinix Hot 8 camera

The images captured by the Infinix Hot 8 13-mega pixel main camera in day light turned out decent. Though colours appeared slightly washed out, the photos were great and its auto focusing was mostly accurate. Most details are not shown when you zoom in on objects. The Hot 8 did well when it comes to close-up shots. It did not over saturate object colours and produced a decent amount of surface details. Though the camera occasionally struggles with auto focusing at close range. Photos captured using the front 8MP camera can be described as average. They look good, but do not provide details like skin texture.

The Hot 8 records videos at up to 1080p, but occasionally has jerky footage or videos as a result of focusing issues which is caused by lack of stabilisation.

Infinix Hot 8 software

The infinix Hot 8 is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 SoC clocked at 2.0GHz. It has a 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is upgradeable to 256GB using microSD cards. The Hot 8 comes in only this configuration. It runs on aXOS 5.0, based on the Android pie 9. It’s not always easy to use the swipe navigation when running a game or multitasking.

The XOS 5.0 comes with useful features such as WhatsApp mode which limits background data usage to only WhatsApp. The freezer feature which stops any app of your choice from running in the background. The software of the Hot 8 is very similar to that of the infinix Hot 7 and Hot 7 pro.

Infinix Hot 8 performance

The Hot 8 performs well with tasks like web browsing, social media etc. However, multitasking with more than 10 apps or running heavy games makes it start to stutter. This smartphone can run casual games fine, but heavy games like PUBG mobile and Asphalt 9 failed to load.

For an average user, this seems to be a great option. However, for gamers and multutaskers the phone may be a bit of a drag. You will need a good gaming phone to run heavy games properly.

Battery Life

The Hot 8 has a 5000mAh battery that can easily last more than a day. This makes it one of the Hot 8 strongest suits. The phone lasts up to a day and half with moderate usage. This involves using it to play casual games, web browsing, social media and listening to music.

Should You Buy It?

Buy it if you:

  • Are not a camera freak.
  • Will not play heavy games like asphalt with it.
  • Don’t mind a slow phone while multitasking.
  • Are on a budget.
  • Are an average phone user and not a gadget freak.

The Final Verdict

The infinix Hot 8 for its discounted price offers a very capable hardware. Despite the 4GB od RAM, the phone struggles with multitasking because of its processor.

The performance of the phone is good provided you don’t play heavy games and multitask a lot. If the camera output is not your primary concern, then the infinix Hot 8 is a decent choice.
