Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s market witnessed a growth in the sales of tablets. This growth was accredited to the fact that most people were stuck at home.
Report presented by IDC shows that the tablet market witnessed a growth of 13.6 percent in sales in the year 2020.
In the year 2019 the total number of tablets shipped were over 144.5 million. A total of 164.1 million tablets were shipped in 2020 with Apple at the top of the list.

According to the report from IDC, Apple shipped over 19 million iPads in the fourth quarter of 2020 alone, showing how dominant they are in the market place. A total of 53.2 million iPads were shipped last year by the tech giant. With these shipments, Apple covered over 32.5 percent of the market.
Samsung came in at second place with a shipment of over 10.1 million Galaxy Tabs in the fourth quarter of 2020. These shipments resulted in a growth of over 45 percent compared to the same period as that of 2019. Samsung covered a market share of 19.1 percent in total from the 2020 tablet sales.
Despite the struggle as a result of several bans, the Chinese tech giant Huawei managed to be in the top 5 tablet brands for the year 2020. Coming in at third place due to shipment of over 16 million units last year. Giving them a total of 9.8 percent of the market share in 2020.
Lenovo, the China-based company, stood fourth with 5.6 million shipments in the fourth quarter of 2020. Gaining over 2.5 million shipments in the fourth quarter over 2019 record. In total, the company shipped 14.1 million units last year and managed to get 8.6 percent market share.
Amazon held the fifth position in the fourth quarter of 2020 with a total shipment of 3.6 million. The United States remains the biggest market for Amazon tablets, followed by Western Europe. Amazon covered a market share of 7.6 percent in total from the 2020 tablet sales.
