A listing spotted on Chinese retail site Taobao might have given us a look at what an upgraded model of Samsung’s flagship Odyssey G9 monitor Could be. Samsung’s next-generation Odyssey G9 gaming monitor could be the first to boast VESA DisplayHDR 2000 certification, according to a recent leak.
The first Odyssey G9 was introduced in June 2020 by Samsung, it was called Samsung Odyssey G9 2020. Reports reaching us confirm that a new model for 2021 equipped with a Quantum Mini LED display will soon be released. This is quite similar to the technology that the Apple’s next-gen iPad Pro will feature.
Not much was divulged by Samsung on the Samsung Odyssey G9 2021. However, Taobao says that there is every possibility that this could be the first to boast VESA DisplayHDR 2000 certification making it the brightest monitor at the moment.

If the VESA certification is approved, this will increase the display’s brightness to 2,000 nits which is twice the brightness of last year’s model. This will also lead to a great improvement on the HDR content of this 2021 model. This is not the only upgrade this technology will bring, according to the listing; this technology will also increase the display’s contrast ratio to 4000:1. The 2021 Odyssey G9 will also feature MiniLED backlighting with 2048 local dimming zones which help improve black levels. Virtually all giant high-end TVs come with this kind of backlighting technology.
The 2021 Samsung G9 odyssey will sport the same specs as its 2020 model. Aside the upgrade done on the screen technology, no other improvements were made. It will have the same curved 49-inch VA panel with 5120×1440 resolution, 1000R curvature same 240Hz refresh rate, the same 10-bit color depth and 95% DCI-P3 color coverage as the 2020 model.

According to Taobao listing, the Samsung Odyssey G9 2021 gaming monitor will be ready for shipping by June at a price of 29,999 RMB approximately 4,580 USD. This price should be considered as a placeholder as the 2020 model costs $1,479.99.
