Galaxy S21 series

The long-awaited Galaxy S21 series has finally been launched. It was unveiled at Samsung’s Galaxy unpacked January 14th 2021 alongside the Galaxy bud pro and Smart tag. As expected, the Samsung S21 series comes with amazing features, ranging from an awesome display to an amazing camera setup as well as advanced AI.

Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 plus

The Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 plus features Qualcomm’s latest chip, the Snapdragon 888 for those in the united states or Samsung’s Exynos 2100 chip for those in other regions. Both devices are said to have a CPU and GPU performance that is 20 – 35% faster than its predecessors.

The Galaxy S21 and S21 plus sports a triple camera setup with a 12MP primary camera, 12MP ultra-wide lens and 64MP 3x telephoto lens. There is a cutout on the display of both devices that houses the 10MP selfie camera. Both phones also support 8K video recording.

When it comes to the display, the Galaxy S21 has a 6.2-inch display while the S21 plus features a 6.7-inch display. Both displays have a refresh rate of 48 – 120Hz which changes automatically depending on your activity on the device. This is done to help preserve battery power while giving you the best display performance. Both devices come with a 1080p display resolution which comes as a shock compared to the 1440p resolution many were hoping to see on a device such as this.

These devices are enabled with AI base blue light shield which helps to adjust your blue light to make your display comfortable for your eyes.

The Galaxy S21 and S21 plus have a 4000mAh and 4800mAh battery respectively. Samsung claims that both batteries can go an entire day while using the phone on 5G network.

Design wise, the S21 has a plastic material for the rear panel. It is available in four distinct colours; phantom violet, phantom pink, phantom Gray, and phantom White. While the S21 Plus has a glass material at the rear and comes in three colours; phantom silver, phantom black and phantom violet.

Price, configuration and Availability

Both devices come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage depending on your choice. The S21 will be sold at a starting price of $799. Samsung’s ultra devices has always been the flagship device in all galaxy S series. This is still the case for the S21 series.

The S21 ultra packs a quad camera setup, with its main camera at 108MP. It has a 12MP ultra-wide camera at 120-degree angle, and also two telephoto lenses, a 3x and 10x telephoto camera. A laser Autofocus and a flash are also there to enhance photo taking. This phone has a small cutout on the display that houses the 40MP selfie camera.

The S21 ultra sports a nearly flat display, slightly rounded at the edges with a 6.8-inch quad HD OLED display, a 120HZ refresh rate and a 3200 x 1440 screen resolution. The phone has a feature called motion smoothness. This feature when set to adaptive automatically switches between 10 – 120HZ refresh rate, depending on what you are doing. Just like the S21 and S21 Plus, this is done to preserve the phone battery. The S21 ultra has a display max brightness of 1500nits, which is 25% brighter.

The Galaxy S21 ultra has a 5000mAh battery. Samsung claims that its battery can go an entire day while on 5G network.

What else?

The S-pen as leaked by tipsters will be supported by the S21 ultra device alone. However, it is an optional accessory you can choose to buy at $30. The S21 ultra is also compactible with other Samsung pens, so you may choose to use a pen you already have from your Samsung Note device. You may have to buy a special case designed to house you S21 ultra device as well as your S-pen. Getting that case as well as an S-pen may cost you about $70.

In general, the S21 ultra is an amazing device with a Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 chipset depending on your region. The phone supports wireless charging and reverse charging. It also does not support the use of microSD card.

Price, configuration and Availability

The S21 ultra comes in three major configurations. A 12GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage or the high-end S21 ultra with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
