Oppo has come forth with its ‘slide-phone’ (Oppo foldable device) and ‘music-link’ concept devices. The devices were showcased at the fourth China International Industrial Design Expo (CIIDE). This concept was conceived due to Oppo’s partnership with Nendo, a Japanese design firm. Their partnership brought about these two concept devices that focuses on classical design and convenience. The ‘slide-phone’ concept consists of three foldable screens which allows you to use the phone in multiple forms. You can fold the Phone depending on what you want to do at that moment. The ‘music-link’ TWS earphone concept is an exceptional concept. It Includes a collection of devices such as a smartwatch, AI speaker, portable charger, and wireless charger.
Oppo slide-phone Concept
This development was made know to the public by Oppo via a press release and a series of tweets. However, the demo video properly explains how these concepts work. The Oppo ‘slide-phone’ concept is based around a triple-hinge foldable screen system.
The first unfold is expected to reveal 40mm of the display, that should be enough for simple tasks such as checking notifications, call history, or accessing the music player controls. The second unfold reveals 80mm of the display, this would give you more screen access to take selfies. The third unfold reveals the entire screen, this is ideal for multi-tasking, watching movies and playing games. The Oppo slide-phone (Oppo foldable device) concept has an inbuilt stylus for note taking. There are physical buttons found on the side of the phone, each with multiple functions depending on the level you unfold to.
Towards the end of the video, we see the phone being slid into a charging dock and some of the panels are also shown to have different colours. This shows that the outer panels can be customized. It certainly looks very cool but you must remember that for now, it’s just a concept video at best.

Oppo Music-link concept
Oppo and Nendo also showcased the ‘music-link’ concept via Twitter. This concept revolves around a pair of TWS earphones that can function differently based on the accessory it is paired with. For ease of movement and fashion reasons, the TWS earphones are designed to be clipped together to form an ellipse. This can be carried around on your neck as a pendant. The earbuds can also be placed around the smartwatch, it appears to also power the watch while in this state. Once again, the video does the best job of explaining Oppo’s vision for this product.
The charging case of the earbuds can be docked on top of a wireless speaker. Not only to charge the earbuds, but to switch the audio from the earphones to the speaker.
The video ends by showing the different ways in which the earphones and the charging case can be charged via special accessories.
It’s hard to say if either of Oppo Slide-Phone and Music-Link concepts will ever make it to production, in their current form anyway. But that’s not to say Oppo doesn’t have wacky products in store for us next year. Late last month, the company showed off Oppo X 2021 smartphone featuring a rollable OLED display that can extend the display size from 6.7 inches all the way to 7.4 inches. I don’t think we’ll all be using foldable phones in any hurry but it’s nice to see manufacturers still experimenting and trying out new concepts, keeping innovation alive.
