The Motorola Razr 2020 is the updated version of Motorola’s first foldable phone. The original Moto Razr is one of the first folding phones available. Less than a year after its production, the new moto Razr 2 was launched addressing a few issues present in the first device. Although, the new Motorola razr fold came with the same design and construction.
The Motorola Razr 2020 flip phone has a cool design which gives it a shot at competing with top-end flagship phones.
The Motorola Razr foldable has a clamshell design which makes it smaller than your average phone when folded. When unfolded, you are greeted with the cool 6.2-inch main display of the phone. The new Motorola Razr also comes with 5G connectivity for those in areas with 5G coverage.
The Motorola Razr 2 price is quite on the high side. Its estimated price is about $1,400 or £1,400 which is an awful amount of money to pay for this device given its low specs compared to most top end phones.
If you are looking for a foldable phone and you feel quite impressed with the design of the Moto Razr 2. Then feel free to go for it if you gat the deep pockets required to make this device yours.
Motorola Razr 2020 Price and Release Date
On September 9, 2020 the Motorola Razr 2020 flip phone was announced, and on the 2nd of October 2020 it was launched in the US.
The Motorola Razr 2020 price starts at $1,399 / £1,399 (around AU$1,900), which makes it slightly cheaper than its predecessor.
Moto Razr 2020 Design Review
The Moto Razr fold with its clamshell design looks and functions in similar ways to its predecessor. The smartphone takes up similar size as most phones when unfolded and half the size when folded. This feature makes the phone a pocketable device since it takes up little space. The Moto Razr 2 shares the same pocketable advantage as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
When it comes to the build quality, the Moto Razr 2 has a glass front and rear which feels durable. It also has a hinge that seems to work well while folding and unfolding the phone.
However, during usage we notice some noises from the hinge when folding and unfolding. This also occurred in the previous Motorola Razr flip phone. Although Motorola has assured that the noise isn’t a sign that the phone is broken, this isn’t a noise you would like to hear from a device as expensive as this.
The fingerprint scanner is located at the back of the phone, and it’s easy to reach. Thereby making it easy to unlock the phone screens when folded or unfolded.
The Moto Razr 2 has a premium finish and feel to it. Its frame is made of aluminum and has a metallic bottom chin that gives you a sense that it is a top-end device.
What Else?
This device has its volume button at the right-hand side and the power button on the left. Located at the bottom of the phone is a USB-C port, a speaker, and a SIM tray. The phone does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack for your headphones.
When it comes to the weight of the Motorola razr 2020 5G, it clocks 192 grams. This means the device is reasonably light and easily pocketable, when compared to some foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.
The new Motorola razr fold comes in three colours; the matte black Polished Graphite, gray-and-black Liquid Mercury, and Blush Gold.
Motorola Razr 2 Display Review
This phone comes with two screens, the most important is the main display. For obvious reasons, we will start our discussion with the screen you will be using most of the time.
The 6.2-inch plastic OLED display has not changed from the original in the moto razr 2019. When unfolded, the screen is as tall as a typical smartphone but a bit narrower. The display sports an HD plus 2142 x 876 resolution, which is slightly less sharp than full HD screens on phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
The moto razr 2 also has a refresh rate of 60HZ which is less than the refresh rate on most top-end phones. Given the expensive nature of this device, the fact that you don’t get a super-smooth refresh rate feels like a major setback.
The phone’s display has a cut-out at the top of the screen that houses the selfie camera as well as the call speaker.
On using the main display, we found typing and swiping quite okay. The Screen feels like that of a normal phone aside for the not easily noticeable give at the middle, where the hinge is located.
The QuickView
The front screen is designed to allow you see notifications, and interact partially with your phone, without unfolding it. On the Motorola razr 2019, it was a 1.1-inch display, but has since evolved to a 2.7-inch display on the Motorola razr 2.
This display is referred to as the QuickView display by Motorola. This sounds accurate given its functions are limited to checking notifications, responding to message, or selecting songs when playing music.
Although resolution on this screen is not of importance since most of your activities won’t be carried out on this screen. However, the 800 x 600 resolution on this display is more than adequate for the role it plays on the phone.
The front screen can be used to check and reply messages, but not on every app. For example, massages from WhatsApp can be replied to on the front screen but if you want to see a Google Drive notification in further detail, and respond, you’ll have to open the main screen.
This, however, puts a pin in the battery-life savings that Motorola believes the front screen offers.
Motorola Razr 2 Camera Review
The Motorola razr 2 sports two cameras, with one located at the rear and the other at the top of the main display. On the front screen you will find a 48MP camera, which will serve as your main camera. When the phone is unfolded, you will find the 20MP selfie camera located at the top of the main display.
Thanks to the clamshell design of this device, the main camera can be used to take selfies when the phone is folded. The front screen shows the picture preview with a tappable shutter button to take the shot. Either of the volume button can also be used to take a photo.
If you want to make video calls or take selfies using the main screen when the phone is unfolded, there is a 20MP selfie camera at the top of the screen for the job.
The main camera of the Motorola razr 2 can take quality shots. However, it has limited photography features which is disappointing for a phone with its price tag.
For example, you’ve only got the one camera, so there’s no option to switch to an ultra-wide or telephoto lens for different shooting scenarios.
The camera produces nice-looking images with true-to-life colours and plenty of details. But getting creative with your smartphone photography is disappointing due to the lack of options.

Motorola Razr 2 (2020) Performance Review
The Moto razr 2020 5G uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G. This is an upgrade compared to the one in the moto razr 2019. It also comes equipped with 5G connectivity.
The device has an 8GB of RAM which is an improvement performance-wise to the 6GB found on the Motorola razr 2019. Apps and games on this device loaded reasonably fast on demand. On paper this isn’t a powerhouse device, but you won’t always notice that in everyday use.
For those who like to load their phones with apps, games and videos, the phone sports an internal storage of 256GB. This is twice the storage found on the 2019 moto razr.
The moto razr 2020 5G runs on Android 10 software and makes use of the Motorola interface and style most Motorola fans are used to.
Motorola’s customizations include Moto Actions, the fan-favorite gestures that enable you to quickly launch certain features. For example, double-chopping to turn the flashlight on and off, and twisting your wrist to open the camera app.
Motorola Razr 2 (2020) Battery life Review
The moto razr 2 packs a 2,800mAh battery. Its battery life is better than the moto razr 2019 model. Considering that this battery is powering two displays, this is a poor choice of battery compared to the 4,000mAh batteries used by most phones.
On full charge, the phone cannot go an entire day without recharging. On use we found that the battery usually dies between 7pm and 9pm on a charge.
The motorola razr 2 supports 15W fast charging. With the fast charge your battery can go from zero to 37% in 30 minutes. However, the phone does not support wireless charging.

The specs of the Motorola Razr 2 aren’t as high as you might be expecting, given its pricey nature. Motorola opted for a lower-end chipset than many would expect on a phone as this. However, its daily use performance is okay.

The Motorola Razr 2020 is undeniably better than its predecessor after solving the issues of limited storage, packing in 5G connectivity and tweaking the design to look sleeker. On the other hand, this is still a restricted foldable phone because it doesn’t offer the best tech or design on the market. For most people spending well over $1,000 or £1,000 this phone may likely be a disappointment.
